Electronic article surveillance is a technological method for preventing shoplifting from retail stores. Special tags are fixed to merchandise. These tags are removed or deactivated at the cash counter properly and customer easily checked out from the exits of the store, However if someone tries to take unpaid merchandise with them outside, then EAS system sounds an alarm or otherwise alerts the staff when it senses active tags.

Radio frequency systems works on standard 8.2 MHz frequency for retail use. RF system is most popular with supermarkets, Apparel Stores, discount stores, chemists and video stores.

Acousto-magnetic systems works on standard 58 KHz frequency for retail use. AM system is most popular with any kind of retail store, specially use for electronic or metal stores, Large department stores, Apparel stores, Hardware stores & Retailers selling products with metallic and foil components or packaging.

Acousto-Magnetic (AM) pedestals are generally more expensive than RF ones. However, this system gives offer slightly better performance and aesthetics. Its also very robust and reliable.
